CNN reporter resigns over coverage of Ecuadorean “coup attempt”
A few weeks back, TeleSur reported that Rodolfo Muñoz resigned from his post as a CNN correspondent on Sept. 30, the same day that Ecuadorean President Rafael Correa was threatened by protesting police. Muñoz claims that CNN forced him to report the story from a single editorial perspective, even when that perspective differed from his own observations.
In short, CNN wanted him to report that the events did not amount to a coup and that no attempt had been made on Correa’s life. Muñoz saw the situation rather distinctly.
An english translation of the TeleSur report is posted at IKN. Otherwise, this story has apparently gone uncovered in the english language press. Run a search for Rodolfo Muñoz in Google News and all you’ll get is the story of an 18 year-old car thief.
