got any friends in Wyoming?

October 29, 2010

Despite having rare bi-partisan support, the Local Community Radio Act (592) is having a difficult time getting out of the US Senate. Wyoming Sen. John Barrasso (R) has put a hold on the bill, apparently to insure that it protects certain privileges for commercial broadcasters. If you know anyone in Wyoming who might take up this cause, Prometheus Radio will get their back.

UPDATE – NOV. 12: Jesse Walker makes some interesting points regarding the Low Power FM (LPFM) bill. Most significantly, he points out that passing LPFM will open markets for entrepreneurial stations that are not looking for direct government subsidies. Many of these will be Christian broadcasters associated with churches. Conservatives should be able to get on board with this. Sen. Barrasso, however, seems to be taking his cue from the National Association of Broadcasters (NAB).

UPDATE – DEC. 19: It passed!
