the morgue photos debate continues

August 28, 2010

Opposition bloggers are making good arguments against the government’s investigation of the morgue photos published in El Nacional. Along with several blogs I’ve seen, Radar de los Barrios is pointing to photos published by El Universal in September 2008 that also show cadavers in the Monte Bello Morgue. When I click on RdlR’s link to the article, however, I’m told my server doesn’t have permission to access. And the “ediciónes anteriores” link on El Universal’s site is inactive. So for the moment all I’ve seen is the cached preview image from a link at Yoteinformo.

Yoteinformo has also pointed out that photos depicting violence in Mexico and Iraq, published recently in the Correo del Orinoco, might reasonably be considered as terrifying to children as the El Nacional photo. That doesn’t invalidate the State’s concern to protect children, but it does point out the seeming lack of consistency in the government’s expression of its responsibility.
