transd[e]uce is back, Reading Rainbow not so much

August 31, 2009

I just discovered that Reading Rainbow aired for the last time on Friday. RR was by far my favorite childhood show, and my desire to offer some tribute, however meager, was enough to get me posting after a long absence. The lack of ready wireless access in Venezuela is my excuse for not posting during my trip, though I could have worked around it if I hadn’t been alternatively busy and lazy. Hopefully I’ll get some backdated posts up soon.

Meanwhile, the saddest part about RR’s disappearance is that, according to NPR: “The show’s run is ending because no one — not the station, not PBS, not the Corporation for Public Broadcasting — will put up the several hundred thousand dollars needed to renew the show’s broadcast rights.”

So much for the US model of public broadcasting. Lindsy Embree knows what I’m saying.
