Wendell Potter: a former health insurance PR exec speaks truth
Wendell Potter spent four years at Humana and fifteen at CIGNA, where he was “as close on the corporate ladder to the CEO as any PR person has ever climbed at the company.” After a serious change of heart, however, he is now the Senior Fellow on Health Care for the Center for Media and Democracy in Madison, Wisconsin. Potter testified before the Senate Commerce Committee yesterday, though the Washington Post story was thin.
Potter’s first public comments for CMD include the following. I’ll be interested to see what else he has to say.
…whenever you hear a politician or pundit use the term “government-run health care” and warn that the creation of a public health insurance option that would compete with private insurers (or heaven forbid, a single-payer system like the one Canada has) will “lead us down the path to socialism,” know that the original source of the sound bite most likely was some flack like I used to be.
